וַתֹּ֣אמֶר הָאִשָּׁה֩ אֲשֶׁר־בְּנָ֨הּ הַחַ֜י אֶל־הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ כִּֽי־נִכְמְר֣וּ רַחֲמֶיהָ֮ עַל־בְּנָהּ֒ וַתֹּ֣אמֶר ׀ בִּ֣י אֲדֹנִ֗י תְּנוּ־לָהּ֙ אֶת־הַיָּל֣וּד הַחַ֔י וְהָמֵ֖ת אַל־תְּמִיתֻ֑הוּ וְזֹ֣את אֹמֶ֗רֶת גַּם־לִ֥י גַם־לָ֛ךְ לֹ֥א יִהְיֶ֖ה גְּזֹֽרוּ׃
Quindi parlò alla donna il cui figlio vivente era rivolto al re, poiché il suo cuore desiderava suo figlio e disse: 'Oh, mio signore, dalle a lei la bambina viva, e non ucciderla affatto.' Ma l'altro ha detto: 'Non sarà né mio né tuo; dividerlo.'
Shut min haShamayim
They responded: "It shall be neither yours nor mine; cut it in two!" (I Kings 3:26), and within the vision they explained that it shall follow neither the stringent ones nor the lenient. Rather, the time between the setting of the sun and the appearance of the stars should be divided in two, and this point is the midpoint of twilight referred to by Rabbi Yehuda5cf. Shabbat 34b:3.
